Two- and Three-Step Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Approaches

Medical Hair Transplant and Aesthetics (MHTA) is a San Francisco-based provider of advanced hair restoration solutions that include pathways such as follicular unit extraction (FUE). This advanced Medical Hair Transplant and Aesthetics procedure employs the "Diep FUE Curve” technique invented by company founder Dr. John Diep.

FUE is the painstaking follicle-by-follicle harvesting of hair grafts from the donor area and transplanting them in the area of the face or scalp that is balding. The traditional three-step FUE technique involves the use of a biopsy punch to make a circular incision in the skin’s epidermal area. The grafts are separated from the deeper dermis around the site by a dull punch, with the hair graft taken from the scalp using forceps.

The MHTA surgeon employs an innovative two-step approach designed to generate large quantities of follicular grafts within a short period of time. The Diep Extractor has a specialized biopsy punch that helps avoid significant numbers of damaged hair follicles and post-procedure complications that can occur with the three-step FUE.
